Senator J.D. Vance’s comments about the shooting at the Trump rally fell even lower, even by the already low standard he set for himself.
“Today is not just an isolated incident. A central argument of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. This rhetoric led directly to the assassination attempt on President Trump.
It remains unclear who the shooter was, whether he was politically motivated, or why he did it.
None of this has stopped J.D. Vance from criticizing President Biden. President Biden never said that Trump needed to be stopped at all costs. Biden’s point was that Trump had to be democratically defeated at the ballot box. Democracy is the only way to defeat Trump’s authoritarianism.
Republicans have shown they are the ones dividing the nation. While President Biden seeks to unite the country, Republicans have turned the mass shooting at their rally into a partisan political issue.
Vance appears to be trying to use the shooting, which left one person dead and another injured, as an opportunity to secure the spot as Trump’s running mate.
America does not need a political opportunist like J.D. Vance who further divides the country for political gain.
