Jamaican fried dumpling Recipes – It’s golden and crispy on the outside, completely soft and fluffy! These dumplings are incredibly addictive and almost impossible to put! They are immediately thrown along with a few pantry staples and can be enjoyed whether they are flavorful or sweet.

These dumplings should be one of my favorite go-to dishes! They make easy breakfast or snack options and make fun, not-to-be-intermediate appetizers and side dishes. I love serving them with spicy cod and creamy mango coleslaw (similar to Jamaican traditional ones). As a result, you’ll have a festival of flavors for your taste buds!

And it’s a dish that you can involve the whole family! My son loves to mix the dough into just the right consistency and help carefully form the dumpling for deep frying. It’s a fun and fast and straightforward process for the whole family!

Jamaican Fried Dumpkin (Festival) and Mango Colle Slaw

What is Jamaican Fried Dumpkin?

I describe them as fried golden balls of pure deliciousness! In other words, they are separated by a mixture of dough, formed into balls, rods, or discs (your choice!) and fried in oil.

The dumplings begin in Jamaica, where workers travel long journeys packed with similar dumplings. These journey cakes, or Johnny cakes, have evolved into the current dumplings.

Tips and notes

  1. Do not work too much when kneading the dough. Stop kneading as soon as the ingredients are combined well. When finished, the fabric must still be soft.
  2. Before frying dumplings, make sure the oil is hot enough. You can test using a fried thermometer or dip the handle of a wooden spoon in oil. If it’s hot, the foam will steadily form around the handle.
  3. Frying dumplings in small batches helps to cook evenly, as they do not allow the oil to cool too much. They should easily fit into bread with a flip room.
  4. Fry one before frying the whole batch of dumplings. This will help you determine if the oil is at the correct temperature.

Makeup and rest

I like to make mango coleslaw early in the day, so I have to take it out of the fridge when I’m ready to eat. Dress up the salad at the last minute and leave the vegetables crispy.

The best way to serve these dumplings is fresh from the frying pan! However, you can make the dough in advance. Bring it to room temperature and stir-fry when ready to eat. Store leftovers in the fridge for 5 days in an airtight container with a paper towel on the bottom to absorb excess moisture.

Jamaican Fried Dumpkin Menu Ideas

One of my favorite dishes with dumplings Jamaican ackie and saltfish. Mild Acky balances the balance between salty fish and fried dumplings. And of course, almost anything with mango coleslaw works.

I also love to offer them Jamaican Eskovic Fish On the side of Callaloo. My mouth is already watering!
