Excerpt from Wikipedia page For Nasrallah:
Hassan Nasrallah (Arabic: حسن نصر الله) [ħasan nasˤrɑɫɫɑh]; born August 31, 1960 – September 28, 2024) is a Lebanese cleric and former secretary general of Hezbollah, a Shiite Muslim political party and extremist organization.
Born in 1960 into a Shiite family on the outskirts of Beirut, Nasrallah completed his education in Tire, briefly joined the Amal movement, and then studied at the Shiite seminary in Baalbek. He then studied and taught at Amal’s school. Nasrallah joined Hezbollah, which was formed to fight Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon. After briefly studying religious studies in Iran, Nasrallah returned to Lebanon and became the leader of Hezbollah after his predecessor was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in 1992.[1][2]
Under Nasrallah’s leadership, Hezbollah acquired long-range rockets that enabled it to attack northern Israel. Israel withdrew its troops in 2000 after inflicting heavy casualties during its 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon, which greatly increased Hezbollah’s popularity in the region and weakened its position within Lebanon. has been strengthened. However, Hezbollah’s role in ambushing Israeli border patrol forces in the lead-up to the 2006 Lebanon War came under local and regional criticism. During the Syrian civil war, Hezbollah fought alongside the Syrian army against what Nasrallah called “Islamic extremists.”
A video posted Friday night local time showed Arabs and Muslims from Middle Eastern countries celebrating Nasrallah’s death.
