Indian sovereign dataset platforms Aikosha and Compute Access Portal were released on Thursday, showing the government’s progress of Indiaai mission of Rs 10,000,000, with a three- to five-year target for GPU development in the country.
Aikosha, part of India’s mission, is an Indian sovereign dataset platform for training AI models, and the AI computing portal is a platform that allows companies to access granted GPUs for research and testing. Today, there are around 14,000 GPUs running, with an additional 4,000 in the pipeline. Previously, Meity had already announced that it had sourced 18,693 GPUs from the Empaneled vendor.
The Aikosha core dataset is provided by government ministries, but private companies are also being consulted to donate impersonal datasets, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. So far, datasets from ministries related to agriculture, weather forecasting and bashini have been added to Aikosha.
The Minister added that more AI calculation capacity will be added quarterly.
“The basic models of India’s own AI are on track. Of these, there are 67 applications, 22 of which are in the development of LLMS. A key part of our computing power is used to develop sovereign AI models… They are developed at the same cost in a sophisticated economy,” Vaishnaw added.
Additionally, the AI course for civil servants has been launched as part of the capacity building mission.
“India is to become one of the top five AI countries in the third term of Prime Minister Modi. We have our own chipset in the next three to four years,” Vaishno said.
