When asked about the timeline for having Indigenous GPU features, Vaishno said:
Vinod Dham, founder and executive managing partner of Indo-US Venture Partners, also known as the father of Pentium Processors, said the timeline given by the GPU’s development minister was rather reasonable.
He said India should utilize OpenAI models to build their own AI models, but should not use Western AI models to do anything confidential.
“It requires a lot of calculations, it takes a lot of energy to perform calculations. Many calculations require a lot of GPUs. One of my recommendations is to fund the kinds of semiconductor missions in India.
In response, the Minister said that arrangements regarding the line of recommendations of DHAM can be considered.
Openai’s chief economist Ronnie Chatardi said in the discussion that datasets are a huge component of building large-scale language models and India, and that the government in particular does an excellent job of publishing these datasets.
“With new sets of skills and populations over 30 each year over the next 30 years, it’s a great opportunity for India to stay on cutting edge,” Chatardi said.
