Gaming-focused generative AI startup Inworld AI has added multilingual support for Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, and Korean, giving creators the tools to seamlessly localize their games into both the language and cultural context.
With its new suite of localization tools, Inworld AI will help game creators reach new audiences in some of the world’s most valuable gaming markets. According to Newzoo, China, Japan and South Korea have more than 800 million players who will spend a combined $70.5 billion in 2023. Combined, these three markets account for nearly a quarter of all players and 40% of global video game spending.
Inworld’s new features allow creators to reach a wider audience and improve discoverability and ratings in these markets. According to the company, localization correlates with higher ratings on both Steam and the app store. In other words, games without proper localization can lead to player dissatisfaction, negative reviews, and reduced reach.
These tools will help Inworld deliver new use cases and meet investor expectations. In August 2023, the company raised $50 million at a $500 million valuation.

How Inworld’s multilingual support works
Inworld built their multilingual support tools with LLM optimized for natural conversation in the target language. By using native dialogue rather than translating to and from English, they were able to better maintain naturalness and cultural context.
While developing its localization tools, Inworld worked with external partners such as LG U+ and Dentsu to get feedback.
Creators can now use Inworld to configure AI characters in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. This process allows developers to specify verbatim phrases, regional accents, and safety settings for each character in different markets. These multilingual tools are also available through Inworld’s Voice API service, allowing creators to generate voices for their AI-powered characters.
Inworld plans to expand its multilingual support to other languages. Currently, the company is focused on adding support for French, German, Portuguese, etc. With these three languages, Inworld will enable developers to reach 9 of the top 10 grossing gaming markets in their native language.
