Set in a state-of-the-art operating room, this patient simulation will help experienced nurses solve complex scenarios and guide them to test in response to perioperative emergencies. Working together, participants must manage all the challenges placed before they can “run away” them skillfully and efficiently.

“Perioperative nursing is a specialist that requires nurses to work quickly and efficiently, working with surgeons and anesthesiologists in high-pressure environments,” says Dr. Frilling.
“However, with surgical advances continually restructuring the field, perioperative nurses need to go ahead of the latest techniques and practices, where experiences like our escape room will help.
“Participants practice managing complex patient scenarios in the operating room, understand and respond to perioperative emergencies, work together with the team, and maintain situational awareness, all of which are important for success.
“As a practical and immersive activity, the escape room allows perioperative nurses to safely test their skills without risk by learning or improving their expertise in a controlled but realistic environment.”
The innovative experience is also part of the new Calvary Scholarship program created to help nurses undertake UNISA Graduate School Certificate in Nursing It focuses on perioperative nurses. Calvary supports 12 scholarships for nurses to undertake perioperative nursing courses, potentially providing additional scholarship opportunities in the future.
