Jason Whitlock, long known as one of Angel Reese’s toughest critics since her choice by Chicago Sky, won a noticeably different tone on Sunday. The veteran analyst offered the star a rare accolade after delivering the first triple double of his WNBA career.
Reese played a pivotal role in ending the empty three-game skid, bringing Chicago to a 78-66 road victory over the Connecticut Sun. Whitlock did not refrain from acknowledging her outstanding performance. The former LSU star praised her overall impact for playing within the game’s flow without forcing a shot.
“Angel Reese played a smart game today,” tweeted Whitlock. “I promoted her more than looking for a shot. Progress. She competes.”
Angel Reese was not particularly efficient from the field, converting only two of her seven shot attempts, but she showed great discipline by not forcing her offense. She made all seven of her free throws and finished with 11 points.
Rebound is her strongest suit and undoubtedly remains the best suit in the league, but Reese showed great growth in other areas of her game on Sunday. Sky Forward tallyed an impressive all-around stat line with 13 rebounds, 11 assists, three steels and two blocks.
Jason Whitlock explodes Angel Reese for “Mebounds” video
Hours before celebrating Angel Reese for her amazing performance on Sunday, Jason Whitlock took another jab in the Chicago sky. The veteran analyst laughed at Reese about how she responded to criticism of “mebound” from fans, and referenced a bold video she posted on social media to deal with the chatter.
“Britney Spears in Stage 2…. This is a cry for help. Anyone who cares about her should remove her from social media,” Whitlock tweeted.
Whitlock, meanwhile, is an outspoken supporter of Caitlyn Clark, has repeatedly leased over the past year. Veteran analysts have previously accused Reese of having a resentment to Clark, even predicting that the team might resign in Chicago due to the ongoing struggle to secure a victory.
