These Indian AGM batteries work as SLI (Starting, Lighting, Ignition) batteries. According to the statement, AGM batteries exhibit approximately 150 percent better durability compared to traditional CMF (completely maintenance free) batteries, with an extended operating temperature range and superior lifespan.

HMIL plans to start equipping its models with these locally produced AGM batteries in the fourth quarter of 2024-2025. “HMIL is set to become the first automotive OEM in India to integrate indigenous AGM (absorbent glass mat) battery technology in its products manufactured by Amara Raja,” said Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, HMIL. HMIL has strengthened its localization efforts through a dedicated team and has collaborated with over 194 vendors to procure over 1,238 components and trim parts for its manufacturing facility in Chennai. At the same time, the company said in a statement that it is implementing a targeted localization strategy for its upcoming factory in Talegaon, Maharashtra.
