Harry Kane awaited the trophy soon came to an end as Bayern Munich locked six points at the top of the Bandesliga table before his match against Borussia Dortmund in the Der Krassica on Saturday. But that comes when he is under scrutiny.
The England captain missed three good chances to score in Bayern’s 2-1 quarter-final loss on the home leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday evening. These are nights where he is expected to make a difference to his team.
Kane has focused on 23 more Bundesliga goals this season, and is set to win the Top Scorer Award again. He is also 10 in the Champions League, netting both feet against Bayer Leverkusen in the 16th round, but there is still more demand.
After all, Kane was not recruited just to deliver the Bundesliga title, which Bayern won 11 times in a row before they arrived. The aim was to promote them to European honor once again. But former Tottenham and Bayern striker Jurgen Klinsmann has sympathy.
“He has a similar situation to what I had at the club level,” says Christman. The German striker had already lifted his country’s World Cup in 1990, but turned 30 when he joined Bayern. “I hadn’t won the club title yet until I left the Spurs and went to Bayern.”
He adds: “Harry always said that if he leaves the Spurs at a certain moment, he will have the opportunity to win a title with his club team.
“I’m really excited about him because he deserves it. In my opinion, he was clearly very close to the Finals and that wasn’t working well with the national team yet.
“But at the club level, I’m excited that it’s likely that he’s six points ahead now. I can see it after the weekend. But he has a big opportunity to win his first trophy in Germany.
How important is Kane to Bayern?
“He’s very important to the Bayern side, and he did a great job from day one. When he came, it was obvious. [Robert] Lewandowski was in Barcelona.
“Bayern Munich has a big tradition of No. 9. The biggest nine of the nine who have played for Bayern Munich is clearly Gerd Müller. He’s not with us anymore.
“To fill that place, it’s also an honor. You know. It’s really very special. I was able to live it for two years at a certain time. [between 1995 and 1997]. And he knows he follows closely from everyone and he knows he receives support from everyone. ”
On the pitch, Bayern’s team is prepared to supply him with players such as Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala, who will provide the movement around him. This is the goal recipe for scoring. Bayern’s 44 players last season, and another 34 in all competitions this year.
“It seems like he’s clicking a lot with players around him. He plays in a system that is fed by attacking midfielders. He’s not doubling two strikers like Inter Milan, for example, with Lautaro. [Martinez] Marcus Thurlam.
“But he’s just changed the environment because he’s used to that style of play from the Spurs over the years. When he goes from London to Munich, he plays the same kind of football.
Accepting Bavarian culture
No one can question Kane’s commitment to Bayern. The last time the England leader moved abroad towards the center, Michael Owen returned from Real Madrid the following year. Kane’s stay in Munich expands in the third season, and perhaps beyond that.
“What he did very well was that he adapted to Germany for Bayern,” says Klinsmann. “He has become part of their lifestyle, part of the city, and his family just slid into that way of life.
“It’s a very international place, Munich, so it’s not that much of a problem. But even so, you need to go to another country and maintain your work rate at the highest level. Meanwhile, you need to realize that your family is also having a comfortable and enjoyable time.
“And he thought of it all. And people are not just ordinary people in Munich, not all fans. He loves him because he is himself. He is humble. He is falling on earth.
Baron Door Podium for Kane?
Clinsmann came in second in the Ballon d’Or vote when he left Tottenham for Bayern in 1995. “I was a bit unlucky because they opened it to non-European players for the first time, and AC Milan and certain George Ware came.”
Asked if Kane is a candidate for Ballon D’Or, Klinsmann said:
“You have to be the top in Europe that year. You had a great domestic season in the Premier League, but you didn’t have a pedigree that you won the Champions League.
“But Harry should be in the top three, at least in the top five.”
Kane’s trophy waiting is almost over
Much will depend on whether Kane can do something special in Milan in Game 2, but before that there will be an opportunity to take a big step towards the Bundesliga title against Dortmund. Once he wins, the monkey finally leaves his back.
“He deserves it because he’s just a great player. He’s proven that over the last 10 to 12 years. His numbers are insane and absolutely crazy. And he’s still in top shape, so he does it. He’s hungry.
