Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen is preparing a new album. this side of the islandto continue into the 2020s the love of your lifewill be released on March 7th. glass notebook. After releasing the title track last month, Leithauser has released a new single today. “Knockin’ Heart”. Check it out below.
Leithauser co-produced the new album with his wife, Anna Stumpf, and the National’s Aaron Dessner. He explained:
I worked on this song for eight years…yes, eight years. When I recorded the piano for my first song, Barack Obama was president 😬. I wrote and recorded most of it in my home studio. The entire record was produced by me and my wife Anna, and seven songs were produced by my friend the amazing Aaron Dessner. To be honest, I remixed it after I worked with Aaron. The other two have his fingerprints all over them, as they have his input in mind. I can’t thank Anna and Aaron enough for their input. We couldn’t have finished without them. I’ve been bouncing ideas off Anna for eight years, and I know I’ve driven her crazy. I finally got to the point where I couldn’t tell which was which, and I think Anna was thinking about kicking me out of the house, but last spring I drove upstate and went to the beautiful Long Pond Studio. I visited Aaron there. We listened to every song and he immediately provided clear and collaborative ideas that ultimately allowed us to get the record across the finish line.
Regarding “Knockin’ Heart,” Leithauser added: “I started this song because I wanted to do a power trio song like Nirvana. It’s about an estranged, stoned lover who’s desperate to get a message out to someone who probably isn’t listening. “If you forgive me, I will love you forever.” There are three bases in there…one is mine and two are Aaron’s. (His idea…and a great idea, except the bass absolutely blares.) It’s written fast, and the lyrics depict a lifelong love that transcends time and space. Please give it a try. ”
