During the warm summer months, it’s traditional to share a glass of pepper sauce. (Hot sauce) I’ll share the recipe with you guys. I have a few other things to do, but I thought I’d share something a little different today: hot honey. It’s delicious on pizza, fried chicken, chicken wings, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, and even a freshly baked coconut bake.
What you need:
2-3 ripe habanero peppers (finely chopped)
3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (Division)
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/4 cups honey
Please note! I highly recommend watching the video below, which goes into more detail about the recipe, including why I diced the peppers and what the seeds are. and The honey was not strained. If you are making this recipe gluten free, please check the entire ingredients list to ensure it meets your gluten free dietary requirements.
- When handling these hot peppers, it is important to wear gloves and to wash your hands with soap and water immediately after handling them. Use any hot pepper of your choice, or the hottest pepper available.
If you can’t get fresh chilies to use in a recipe, you can use your favorite chili flakes. I have several varieties of chilies in my garden, but I chose ripe habaneros because when added to honey, they provide the perfect combination of fruity flavor and heat.
Add the diced pepper, salt, and 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the pot and stir to combine.
Before adding the honey, you can add salt and vinegar to bring out the chili flavor.
Pour your honey of choice into a saucepan, turn the heat to low and stir to combine.
The goal is not to let it boil, but as soon as you start to see small bubbles around the outer edges, turn off the stove. Do not boil!
When you remove it from the burner, add a final tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and stir to brighten it up a bit.
All you have to do now is pour the mixture into a sterilized container, let it cool and store it in a cool, dark place. It will last for 3-5 months, but you’ll probably use it up sooner.
Our Grilled Pineapple Pepper Sauce that we introduced a few years ago is a big hit, but once you try this Hot Honey, you’ll definitely want to keep it in your pantry.
