So far I have shown you how to make a variety of dishes such as Plantain Frittata, Breaded Deep Fried Plantains, Plantains with Orange Brown Sugar Glaze, Refried Boiled Plantains, etc. As the hot summer days bring more grilling, I felt it was time to share a delicious Grilled Plantain recipe with you all.
What you need…
3 large ripe plantains (Hard)
3 tablespoons melted butter
Cooking/Baking Sprays
1 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt (flaky finishing salt)
Please note! Check out the video below for more details on the recipe. If you don’t have an outdoor grill, you can cook it in the oven or on a grill pan on the stove. Grilling over wood or charcoal makes for a tastier grilled plantain. If you’re making this recipe gluten free, check the full list of ingredients to make sure they meet your gluten-free dietary requirements.
Mix sugar and cinnamon together and use as a topping for plantains.
Peel, cut and slice the plantains (Explained in the video).
Spray a clean grill surface with oven spray, place the plantains flat side down and grill at 375F for 3-4 minutes.
Then flip them over, brush with melted butter and top with cinnamon and brown sugar. Close the grill and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
Remove from the grill and top with flaky finishing salt, if desired. (Optional if on a low sodium diet)The brown sugar caramelizes and combines with the cinnamon to create a lovely flavor that complements the natural flavor and sweetness of the ripe plantains.
Yes, in the Caribbean they call it “plantain”. Now you get the idea!
Tip! Use a spatula to flip the baked plantains as applying pressure with tongs will cause them to fall apart.
