Greenso Energy India Ltd., India’s only domestic electrolyser manufacturer, will increase its alkaline electrolyser manufacturing capacity from the current 250 MW to 1 MW by 2026, according to founder and CEO Sandeep Agarwal. The plan is to increase the capacity to gigawatts.
Capacity will be further increased to 2 gigawatts by fiscal year 2028, he said.
Greenzo sees huge potential in the green hydrogen production sector as companies from various sectors announce plans to reduce carbon emissions in line with India’s net-zero goals.
“The country has the potential to produce 20 GW of hydrogen, worth $20 billion. We hope to benefit from this momentum by leveraging cost-competitive domestically produced electrolyzers.” said Agarwal.
Agarwal said several companies in the country have announced plans to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia, but are facing implementation-related challenges due to lack of electrolyzers. “Our electrolyzers are customized for the Indian environment and can operate between minus 20 degrees Celsius and 60 degrees Celsius, unlike electrolyzers imported from China, Korea and Germany. ” he said.
“In terms of cost, our alkaline electrolysers can last for 25 years and are based on mature technology without any precious metals, so these electrolysers cost 20% less than imported electrolysers (excluding China). It is ~40% cheaper. The main ingredients are steel and nickel, which are sourced domestically,” Agarwal said.
