The government has appointed Manjialaljat as director of the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR) for three years. He will also become the former Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Research and Education (dare) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture Welfare.
“The Cabinet’s Appointment Committee has approved the appointment of Dr. Mangiraljat, Deputy Director-General-Research (AI) and the Global Research Program of the International Crop Research Institute. The government’s order is, post or further orders, whichever is earlier, whichever is earlier.”
Currently, the Agriculture Secretary is in charge of the DG, ICAR and secretary charges after the retirement of Himanshupatak, who joined as a DG in Hyderabad on March 6 after a voluntary retirement from ICAR.
ICAR agricultural scientists are permitted to serve until age 62, but DG, ICAR will continue until age 60, and the person will also dare to act as secretaries.
According to the ICRISAT website, JAT is a well-known system agronomist with over 25 years of extensive experience in systems science across developing countries. He has worked for over 12 years at the International Rice Institute (IRRI) as a leading scientist/systems agriculture scholar and systems science strategy at the International Centre for Corn and Wheat Improvement (CIMMYT). He also served as a systems agriculture scholar at the Indian Agricultural Research Council (ICAR) for 12 years.
JAT holds a PhD in Agriculture in the Soil Moisture Conservation of Pearl Millets in the Rain from ICAR Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IAR) in New Delhi.
