With the 2024 men’s major season now concluded, attention now turns to a busy end to the golf season and a host of exciting events to look forward to on Sky Sports Golf.
Xander Schauffele followed up his breakthrough performance at the PGA Championship earlier this year with a victory at the British Open after a thrilling week at Royal Troon, while Scottie Scheffler won the Masters in April and Bryson DeChambeau claimed his second U.S. Open title.
Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy will have to wait another nine months before he gets his latest chance to complete a career major grand slam. McIlroy is in his 11th year since winning a major and will be looking to finish the season strong on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Next up, attention shifts to the Paris Olympics, where Scheffler and McIlroy will be the favourites to win the men’s event at Le Golf National, and Nelly Korda will be gunning for gold for the US team in the women’s tournament, and there’s plenty of golf to enjoy throughout the rest of the season.

Can Scheffler claim FedEx Cup glory?

Can Europe make Solheim Cup history?
The U.S. has a 10-8 record against Europe in the Solheim Cup but hasn’t won since 2017, losing consecutively in 2019 and 2021 and finishing with a dramatic draw in last year’s match in Spain.
The Solheim Cup is being played in back-to-back years to avoid a conflict with the Ryder Cup, and Pettersen will captain Europe and try to lead the reigning champions to a second consecutive victory in the United States.
Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia will host the event from September 13-15. Live broadcast on Sky Sports, Europe will have many of their squad from last year up against a strong U.S. team. The past three meetings have been very close and the 2024 tournament should be no different.
Can the International team pull off a shocking performance at the Presidents Cup?
The United States has been the dominant force in the biennial tournament and is seeking a 10th consecutive Presidents Cup victory, but the international team is looking for a high-profile upset after a shock win in Montreal this September.
The Team USA lineup may offer some clues as to who will be on Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup team next year at Bethpage Black, while international teams may take encouraging signs from their recent performances at the tournament.
After the 2015 tournament where the International team lost by one point in South Korea and the Tiger Woods-captained USA needed a final-day comeback to win in Australia in 2019, there are plenty of positives to be found in a 17.5-12.5 loss at Quail Hollow in 2022. Could the International team win for the first time since 1998?
Will McIlroy find further success in the Race to Dubai?
McIlroy is a five-time winner of the Race to Dubai, won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year and was runner-up at the U.S. Open, and is in prime position to once again top the DP World Tour prize money standings.
McIlroy is scheduled to play in Europe in September at the Amgen Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, both of which are part of the DP World Tour’s new “Back 9” schedule, as well as the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in November.
A new season-ending double-header in the Middle East will see 70 players compete in Abu Dhabi and 50 in Dubai, while if McIlroy is crowned Race to Dubai champion he will move to within two of Colin Montgomerie’s all-time win total.
