A former adviser to Barack Obama suggested the excitement generated by the Republican National Convention would be comparable to when Obama electrified the political world in 2008.
Van Jones, now a CNN contributor, made the remarks Thursday night in response to comments made by Republican strategist and panel member Scott Jennings.
Jennings was fired up, and Jones suggested the “spirit” he exuded was not unusual.
“This spirit of this man [Jennings] “You would think it was because he was drunk, but it’s not. This is what this whole incident is about,” Jones said.
He added, “The last convention that felt like this was with President Obama in 2008. Something is happening.”

Van Jones says Trump’s Republican National Convention will be like Obama’s 2008
Given the disaster and damage that Obama has caused, it may be hard to remember that Barack’s 2008 presidency was actually a brilliant speaker who gave some great speeches.
Regardless of how you feel about him, his political talent is undeniable.
He shot to fame with his “Red States, Blue States” speech at the last Democratic National Convention in 2004. It was that “spirit” and excitement that Van Jones calls what propelled him to victory over John McCain.
Sixteen years later, Jones is getting that same vibe from Trump and the Republican National Committee, and after impassioned speeches from wrestler Hulk Hogan, UFC president Dana White and a performance from rocker Kid Rock, it’s hard to argue.
The energy, the momentum, is clearly all on Trump’s side right now, and the assassination attempt on the former president has raised the heat to an unprecedented level.
After all, Hogan gave a speech at the Republican National Convention that made you want to eat a bowl of rusty nails without milk afterwards.

Preparedness for what is to come
It seems Van Jones has finally accepted reality. The energy shift is real. Voters are saying they’ve had enough. The witch hunts. The violence. It’s time to move in a new direction.
Jones, who had been in denial a few weeks ago, was nearly in tears after watching President Biden debate President Trump.
“That’s not what we wanted from Joe Biden,” he lamented.
Of course, Van Jones was sounding the alarm long before his peers in the media: After a 2022 press conference in which Biden was completely lost, Jones called the president “dazed” and “wandering,” even going so far as to liken him to the late President Ronald Reagan, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
Surprisingly, Jones has praised Trump in the past, saying he “doesn’t get enough credit” for “the good things he’s done for the black community.”
Earlier this week, Jones contrasted Biden’s response when he tested positive for COVID-19 with that of Trump, who stood up and fought after nearly being killed.
“This is a terrible day. If we take a step back and look at this situation, we see strengths and weaknesses. Bullets don’t stop Trump. The virus only stopped Biden,” he said in scathing comments to the Democratic National Committee.
Jennings is excited. Hulk Hogan is excited. The whole Republican National Committee was excited. And now even Van Jones is excited. Hopefully, Trump’s outcome in November’s election will be like Obama’s in 2008.
