Chicago Fire FC on Tuesday named Greg Broughton the latest addition to head coach Gregg Berhalter’s staff as athletic director.
“Greg brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his time in Europe, and we are excited to have him as sporting director,” Berhalter, who is also the club’s director of football, said in a team statement. “He is a passionate leader with a proven track record of developing talent and building competitive teams. As a key member of our leadership team, Greg will drive sustained success in all areas of our athletic department. We will contribute to the establishment of a high-performance culture.”
Broughton will be responsible for talent development, but will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining players and staff, as well as providing strategic support to Berhalter.
“I’m excited to join Chicago Fire FC as athletic director and share Greg Berhalter’s vision to make the Fire one of the top clubs in North America,” said Broughton. “I look forward to supporting Greg in all areas of the athletic department, developing a culture of excellence, and building a player transaction model that supports the acquisition and retention of the talent we need to succeed.”
Originally from England, Broughton has deep roots in European football. He began his career with Wycombe Wanderers in 1999 and was more recently Director of Football at Blackburn Rovers in the English Football League.
Chicago finished last in the MLS Eastern Conference in 2024 with 30 points (7 wins, 18 losses, 9 draws).
