MANILA, Philippines – The university college of Santo Thomas High School’s Captain Jaila Adrao explained why UST coach Kungfu Reyes decided to transfer to Nazareth School a few days after airing his complaints about “unethical” recruitment practices and player poaching.
In an interview with Varsitarian, UST’s official publication, Adrao said her move towards the nun was for her “growth” and development.

“I’ve decided completely [to leave] said Adrao of the Philippines. “I think it’s time to explore new systems, especially since we can see growth in the game.”
After Reyes described the Grade 11 player as “very unethical,” Adrao defended the timing of her transfer.
“The girls’ season was already over last December and our school year ended in May this year, so I don’t think that’s in the middle of the season anymore.”
She also made sure to inform the right people about her departure.
“Adrao said she sent an official letter to UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes on April 28th to director Epair Rodel Kansancio, detailing her transfer after moving out of the dorm on April 29th,” the story wrote.

“The UST Girls team captain coordinated with track and field moderator Rodrigo Sambuang and dormitory supervisor Erickson Pabalan before adding that he left to ensure clearance.”
Adrao added that the move also offers time to coordinate with her.
“UST Girls ‘Bolleyball is coming soon in May this year, which will allow the team to focus on new sets of players and tailor them to my departure,” she said.
Adrao, who is scheduled to finish Grade 11 later this month, felt that UST’s system didn’t suit her style.
“They made me switch positions into the UST system and felt that was hindering my improvement,” she said. “I played a variety of positions and it was hard to focus on. So I didn’t see myself improving.”
UST Junior Tigress came third this season after losing to second-placed Adamson in the Final Four. Nuns Lady Bullpups regained the crown after cleaning up Adamson in the title round.
