Celebration time

Start May off right with a visit to a famous jazz club and enjoy a mix of classic jazz and world rhythms. St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival (April 30th – May 12th) will take place against the iconic backdrop of the Piton Mountains.

The arrival of indentured laborers from India to the Caribbean is seen throughout the region; this is often referred to as “indentured servitude.” Arrival date in India — Grenada (1 May), Guyana (5 May, public holiday), St. Lucia and Martinique (6 May), Jamaica (10 May), Trinidad and Tobago (30 May, public holiday), St. Vincent and the Grenadines (1 June) and Suriname (5 June) will mark the occasion with traditional foods, re-enactments, dancing and other events.

Go to the north, Toronto Jazz Festival (June 21st to 30th) Pride Toronto (June 28-30), featuring “The Lesbian March, Transgender March and Toronto Pride Parade.”

As June draws to a close, top musicians will be headlining St. Kitts Music Festival (June 27-29) Gospel, soul, soca, jazz, R&B, blues, reggae, etc. Meanwhile, in Trinidad, T&T Bioblitz (June 29-30) Scientists, students and nature lovers will explore the biodiversity of beautiful Guayaguayare and its surroundings.
