LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Elliott Smith’s New Monkey Studios has announced plans to host a special charity concert in honor of what would have been the late singer-songwriter’s 55th birthday.
The show, titled “All My Rowdy Friends,” will take place at Los Angeles’ Regent Theatre on Tuesday, August 6, and will feature a setlist by DJ Anthony Valadez and performances by Elliott’s Figure 8 touring bandmates Scott McPherson, Aaron Embry and Sean Sullivan.
Guest artists include Jason Lytle and Jim Fairchild of Grandaddy, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Illuminati Hotties, Cheekface, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Kevin Devine, Johanna Samuels, Earlimart, Emily Kinney, mehro, Madison Cunningham, Violet Grohl and more.
All net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to New Monkey Studios, which serves as an unofficial museum to Smith and his collection of musical projects and vintage audio recording equipment.
For fans who can’t attend in person, the show will be broadcast live from the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles starting at approximately 7:30pm PST on the live streaming platform “Veeps.”
“Our goal with this concert is to safeguard the future of the studio so that generations of artists can continue to enjoy the creative space created by one of the most beloved and respected musicians of all time,” says Chief House Engineer Greg Cortez. “People should be able to experience the studio process with the authentic hardware while it remains in this form,” says New Monkey Studios co-director Joel Graves. Studio manager Robert Cappadonna adds, “Not only is this evening a celebration of Elliott’s music, it’s also an important step in preserving a sonic sanctuary that has become a historic landmark in music.”
