The Telecommunications Ministry said Monday it had partnered with WhatsApp to extend its meta safety campaign against online fraud and spam.
Joel Kaplan, Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, met with the Union Minister of Communication and Development in the Northeast Region of Jyotiraditia Cindia on Monday to discuss the effectiveness of DOT and Meta’s continued cooperation.
As part of the collaboration, DOT and WhatsApp will work together to educate citizens on the identification and reporting of suspicious fraud communications to raise digital security and awareness.
According to the official release, DOT is taking various initiatives to prevent the misuse of communication resources in cybercrime and financial fraud.
The citizen-centric Sanchar Saathi initiative in the form of portals and mobile apps has been developed to allow citizens to report suspicious scams and messages, grasp mobile connections, block lost or stolen mobile handsets among other facilities.
DOT Exchange Digital Intelligence Platform, or DOT Exchange Two-way Intelligence DIP, DIP with 550 stakeholders such as banks and LEAs and 550 stakeholders on misuse of communication resources and subsequent actions.
