What is a Passport Card?
A passport card is an official travel document issued by the U.S. government and can be used in place of a passport for travel by land or sea to neighboring countries, including most of the Caribbean islands. However, Passport cards cannot be used for air travel.
Passport cards are wallet-sized and lightweight, making them an affordable and convenient alternative to a traditional passport. A passport card for one adult costs $65, while a passport book costs $135. If you’re a first-time applicant, there’s an additional $35 fee that applies to both the passport card and the passport book.
What is the Trusted Traveler Program?
The Trusted Traveler program is targeted at frequent flyers and offers an improved airport experience with perks like priority lanes at U.S. airports. These perks also extend to border crossings, making for an overall more convenient experience for travelers.
Enrollment in these programs requires prior approval and is generally targeted at low-risk travelers.
The Trusted Traveler program includes:
- Nexus: It is typically used to enter the United States from Canada by land, air, or sea.
- Sentry: It is typically used to enter the United States by air or land from Canada and Mexico.
