Pre-show ritual
Part of my ritual is to say a prayer and tell my family how much I love them, and start my day with good energy.
When I’m with my team and my friends, I try to go all out and inspire them before I do anything. I’m here trying to be a great person, and when I see other people being great, I think it rubs off on me. So we need to inspire each other.
When I am on a music tour, I like to listen to certain music backstage before I go on stage. I love listening to conscious reggae music. I have a playlist and I only listen to real, powerful and beautiful words. Even if it is raining outside, it is sunny here. It is always good for me to be super relaxed before I go on stage with energy.
There are many different rituals, but the most important are offering prayers, thanking family, and giving thanks for the opportunity.
Changing rooms and rider requests
I have Honey Buns, of course. I have Nesquik Another Buns. But I also have almonds and fruit. I have beet pills. I have a new white T-shirt because I always spill stuff on it. I have an iPhone charger.
Sometimes I like to take a speaker outside my trailer and blast music for everyone around me, so they can feel the energy. Sometimes I play these classics outside my trailer while I’m filming a TV show. Blueprint Jay Zyou know what I’m saying? It’s just a vibe.
What else did I order? Diptyque candles. Cigars. I change them up every now and then. Also some gum and chips. Nothing too outlandish. Nothing to scare the promoters.
Favorite songs to play live
“All I Do Is Win.” When I do shows, I play this song multiple times throughout the show. It’s a victory anthem and it’s an anthem for all of us, and it’s going to be played forever. So it’s always a great feeling when this record is played and it gets the same reaction all around the world.
The perfect afterparty
I enjoy being with my family and my kids. After a show, I like to go to the next city or home. I just want to be with my wife and kids, but sometimes I go straight to the studio. Making music is exciting. I can’t stop working. And by work, I mean being productive and doing great things.
Future outlook
Every time I step on stage I feel that energy. That’s what it’s all about. By creating hits, I’ve learned how to create other kinds of hits.
I have a lot of things I’m working on – new merch, a new clothing line, new sneakers, a new album in the works, but I only go into the studio when inspiration strikes, and that’s what I want to create.
