It’s no surprise that Disney’s latest foray into live-action is a remake of the animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Granted, there’s nothing wrong with remakes per se, but this latest project from Marc Webb may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Many remakes have been criticized for lacking the magic and charm of the animated version. That may be true in some cases, but Snow White seems like a made-for-purpose remake, and the movie hasn’t been released yet.
Not only does this movie seem to go against what made the 1937 movie so memorable, but they also decided to push its release back to 2025, which is usually not a good sign.
Snow White is no longer a love story
According to lead actress Rachel Zegler’s comments, “People joke that our PC is Snow White, and that’s because, yes, we needed it. This is an 86-year-old comic, and our version is a refreshing story about a young woman with a role that goes beyond “.Someday the prince will come”.
It’s perfectly fine to have characters that go beyond love stories, but if a filmmaker is remaking a classic story that’s primarily based on romance and the idea of a strong love story, it’s okay not to make romance the focus of the remake. , it will only lead to diminishing the value of the work. Achieved in the 1937 film.
Zegler himself
It’s not Zegler’s fault that she was cast, and it may be a larger issue dependent on Disney, but it’s important to note that the Mouse House decided to cast a white actress when the movie was called “Snow White” instead of “Off-White.” The fact is that they cast a Colombian instead.
Destroying the structure and race of Snow White is almost an insult to the character of Snow White. She is a great actress, but this was not an option for her.
Cast comments and director silence
Director Zegler is doing herself no favors by effectively negating the legacy of the 1937 film, and says she and the filmmakers are not only making a love story, but substituting real actors. Decided to add (mostly) CGI dwarfs to the game.
Additionally, Marc Webb, director of the Amazing Spider-Man two-part series, has remained silent on the radio about the film, and it appears he has been tapped to direct the Bermuda Triangle movie. Maybe it’s because he knows Snow White is going to be crap.
