Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) is trying to put together a group of Democratic senators to try to persuade Biden to step down, according to anonymous sources.

Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) is trying to put together a group of Democratic senators to urge President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, according to two people with direct knowledge of the effort.
Warner has told Democratic senators that Biden can no longer run the campaign after his poor debate performance, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Warner has told others he is deeply concerned that Biden cannot run a campaign that can beat former President Donald Trump.
Where did the leak of this story come from? Apparently it came from the office of a Democratic senator who was contacted by Warner, or from Warner’s office. This is true, as Warner’s statement did not confirm or deny the report.
The panic and effort to remove Biden from the election is being driven by Democrats who are worried about keeping their jobs. If these senators want to remove Biden they need to stand up and look the American people in the eye and say so. This game of hiding behind anonymous sources is cowardly.
The only realistic option other than President Biden is Vice President Harris. Any other plan would waste weeks of the Democratic Party’s campaign and give Donald Trump an advantage heading into November. This situation, where party elites watched Biden’s debate and decided they want to ignore the will of the Democratic primary voters, is extremely undemocratic.
If that is the case, Democrats who want Biden out of office have an obligation to Democratic voters to go on the record and respect the primary election process.
