In a recent interview IndieWire, Deadpool and Wolverine Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that they had originally written the scene for Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man along with the rest of the characters. the avengers cast.
Unfortunately, they were writing the script without knowing about Marvel’s plans for him to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. According to Wernick, “Behind the scenes, we had no idea about Doctor Doom. [plans]There’s no way he’s going to do both. So we were like, ‘Oh, Downey wouldn’t say no to Ryan Reynolds, would he? Nobody says no to Ryan Reynolds.’ And Ryan pressed him hard. We wrote the scenes, Downey read the scenes, but behind the scenes, he didn’t know about Doctor Doom.”
Reese released a version of the scene in question. did The finished film features Happy Hogan, played by Jon Favreau: “It was a version of what you saw. [the Avengers] “Wade refused, saying he wasn’t a team player or whatever, and questioned his ability to be a team player. So it was actually pretty close to the scene you saw, just with two guys instead of one,” he said. “I mean, you see, we wish Downey had been there, but at the same time, I think Marvel had an ace up their sleeve: He was going to come back as a different character. So, making him Tony Stark? Knowing that Doctor Doom was coming in afterwards? It just didn’t make sense.”
However, an early version of the Deadpool audition included every Wade appeared as a member of the original Avengers before budget constraints and shooting schedules were taken into consideration. Wernick reveals, “There was a very early version of that scene, unscripted but conceived, and all the Avengers were in a room, and Wade was vetoed, and he berated all the Avengers in a way that only Deadpool can.”
While the films have seen Deadpool poke fun at everyone he meets, we haven’t seen his harsh, fourth-wall-breaking jokes aimed at Hawkeye, Black Widow, Hulk and company. We’ll have to make up for the character’s more salacious quips ourselves, at least until Wade Wilson’s next foray into the MCU.
