Actor Danny Trejo is known for playing villains in many films. MacheteBut on Thursday, an unidentified water balloon crashed into Trejo’s classic car as he took part in the Independence Day parade in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. Trejo, who turned 80 in May, was driving his classic convertible, interacting with the crowd and taking selfies with fans when an errant water balloon slammed into his car.
As expected, many people with cell phone cameras captured video footage of the incident, which can be seen Danny Trejo getting out of his convertible after the water balloons land on the vehicle and chasing the crowd where the water balloons were presumably generated. As Trejo confronts the group on the sidewalk, people near Trejo’s car yell “No water!” at the group, who are out of camera range.
As an actor known for his tough guy roles, he starred in Machete And in its sequel, Danny Trejo had no intention of forgiving someone for smashing a water balloon into his classic convertible.
It’s unclear if he was addressing the group that threw the water balloons in question, but the yelling apparently prompted Trejo to throw a punch. Others rushed in to help stop the fight, and Trejo fell to the ground. Video footage shows Trejo throwing a lawn chair, but it’s unclear if it hit anyone. The fight was over quickly and no one was injured or harmed, but even 80-year-old Danny Trejo would likely be able to land a heavy punch on a water balloon threat.
While water balloons are a common feature at the District’s annual Fourth of July parade, Trejo said classic cars should be respected and protected. The Mexican-American actor was born in Los Angeles in 1944 and didn’t have the best of upbringing. He was abused by his father, his mother left him, and he lived with his grandmother after his father was jailed for stabbing someone. Trejo gradually turned to drugs and selling them throughout his childhood and teenage years. Like many kids who get involved with street crime and criminals, Trejo was drawn to both, and he ran afoul of the law multiple times during his youth.
Danny Trejo was incarcerated at San Quentin Prison and other California prisons multiple times between 1959 and 1969 after being held in juvenile detention and stabbing a man in the face. He was a drug dealer and debt collector, and was involved in or witnessed violent crimes, including murder, during his time in and out of prison.
Danny Trejo plays a tough guy in the movies, but that’s not just acting, because he’s a real bad guy in his own right.
