MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-Canadian Aleia Torres is embracing the pressure that comes with joining the most successful and popular PVL team, Creamline, ahead of the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference kicking off at the PhilSports Arena on Tuesday.
Torres achieved his dream of being part of the PVL after becoming the lone rookie to be drafted 12th overall by the Cream Line at the Novotel on Monday night.
“There’s definitely a lot of pressure, but like the Canadian coach said, pressure is a privilege, so I’m just going to enjoy this opportunity and hopefully be able to handle whatever comes my way,” the rookie libero told reporters. “The fan base is really big, so I’m really looking forward to meeting all the fans and just being part of like a big happy family.”

Torres, who stands 5-foot-4, will be looking to help the Cool Smashers succeed in 2022 as the Creamline looks to end a six-year drought for an enhanced conference title following a bronze medal and runner-up finish in 2019.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to be a part of this team and learn from other players who have won, so I hope I can offer my talents and skills to the team and help them continue their winning streak,” she said.
Torres joins liberos Denden Lazaro Revilla, Kayla Atienza and Ella De Jesus in bolstering the cream-line floor defense.

Torres, whose parents lived in Cavite and Tarlac provinces, is excited to make her PVL debut and play in front of her extended family alongside fellow Filipino-foreign players Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips of Petro Gaz, Savi Davison of PLDT and Filipino-Japanese teammate Risa Sato.
“I’m super excited. A lot of my family back in Canada have never seen me play, so it’s definitely a good opportunity for them to come and see me play professional volleyball in the Philippines,” Torres said. “I think it’ll be a good match on the court and I hope I can play against them and bring my skills to the team.”
Creamline will begin their match against PLDT on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena. They will be in Pool A with Cherry Tigo, Farm Fresh, Nxled and Galleries Tower.
