Grant Ellis received a rose from ABC.
In a sense, you could say that.
Following his surprising exit in the latest season, BacheloretteThe 30-year-old Houston native was named the star of season 29 of The Bachelor.
This makes Ellis just the second African-American to ever star as a central character in the long-running series.
“A self-proclaimed mama’s boy, Ellis’ infectious smile and unwavering positivity instantly brighten up any room he walks into,” ABC said in an official description of the new leading man.
“A former professional basketball player, he is passionate about his career in day trading, but when he’s not immersed in the fast-paced world of finance, you can find him cheering on the Lakers, hitting strikes at the bowling alley, or singing karaoke.”
While shadowing Jenn Tran as a contestant on The Bachelorette, Ellis spoke about how Tran’s father’s substance abuse issues affected him, while Tran spoke about her struggles with her absentee father.
They seemed to be in a relationship — Ellis even said she was in love — but Tran whisked Grant away before next week’s hometown dating episode.
“I want to have a family, you know that?” he said on the August 12 episode of The Bachelorette.
“I want to be happy. I want a wife. I want love. I want that, you know? I want to give my all to someone and I want them to give their all to me in return. I don’t know what else to say. I never thought it would happen tonight.”
Ellis added after the loss:
“I let it all out but it wasn’t enough. It just sucks when you have feelings for someone and you find out they don’t have the same feelings for you.”
But now, as the Bachelor, Ellis will be in control of this emotional process himself.
Of his acceptance into the role, ABC said, “Ellis is eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure and authentic connection.”
“He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s small joys.”
I believe there is hope for that with Grant Ellis.
And judging by the history of this series, we’re pretty sure that’ll never actually come to fruition, but we’re rooting for him, he seems kind and sincere.
The Bachelor season 29 is scheduled to premiere in January 2025.
However, before the series even begins airing, Joan Vassos will star in the first season. Golden Bachelorette.
“I am honored to be a mother to four amazing children and grandmother to two beautiful grandchildren (who call me JoJo). But once a mother always a mother and sometimes the timing just isn’t right and love just isn’t found,” the new reality TV star wrote on her Instagram Story in October.
“Everyone in the family is doing well and hopes they will one day have another chance at love.”
The Golden Bachelorette premieres Wednesday, September 18 at 8pm/7pm ET/PT on ABC.
