Indian coffee exports rose 48% to $202.95 million in April due to high commodity prices, but volumes were a little lower during that period. In April last year, coffee exports were $137.27 million.
Exports during April, based on licenses issued by Coffee Board, were low at 35,259 tons, down 11% from 39,827 tons in the same period last year.
In the current calendar year from January 1st to May 15th, there was a 13% decrease from 1.77 larkton a year ago to 13%. Arabica shipments witnessed growth over the period, but Robusta shipments fell.
Instant Coffee Down
Arabica parchment shipments increased to 24,136 tons (16,795 tons in the same period last year) over the period. Similarly, Arabica cherry shipments will also increase to 5,727 tons (3,657 tons). However, Robusta shipments have declined. Robusta parchment shipments were low at 10,796 tons (12,059 tons), while Robusta Cherry Cargo was dipped in 60,321 tons (85,183 tons).
Instant coffee shipments fell to 19,122 tons (19,713 tons), but during January 15th, re-export imports fell to 34,160 tons (39,820 tons).
Ramesh Rajah, president of the Coffee Export Association, said the increase in freight value is decreasing due to rising prices. Arabica shipments have been higher due to previous orders, but buyers are away from the expensive Indian Robustas, Raja said. The order book remains weak as buyers still buy on a required basis.
For the fiscal year ended March 2025, India exported 389,000 tonnes of coffee, worth a record $1.82 billion.
