There’s a message to every country lined up to pour money into Donald Trump’s pocket.
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) reminded these countries that they are paying for their relationship with Donald Trump rather than the United States. By paying for Trump, these countries have developed relationships with the current president, not with the United States.
Murphy said countries like Qatar are causing damage to future relations with the United States.
video:
Senator Murphy said when asked by Nicole Wallace on MSNBC about Qatar giving Trump a plane:
This is a banana. Foreign governments are giving the US president a $400 million plane in exchange for favorable national security treatments. The neighboring country has signed a contract with $2 billion worth of Trump’s crypto business in exchange for favorable treatment from the US.
It’s amazing how this is happening. There is even debate as to whether this is okay, an acceptable law or a constitution. You’re right; Air Force 1 is a pretty good plane. Why do we need something new? This plane is Donald Trump’s plane, so this plane, Donald Trump, will be able to maintain and use after the President of the United States.
My hope is that Qatar will withdraw this offer. My hope is that after Trump left town, Qatar decided to do so is that they want a long-term relationship with the United States. They don’t want a relationship with Donald Trump. Despite important alliances with the Saudi Arabians, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, these alliances will be worn out forever if they continue to pay back Donald Trump. Because of its long-term relationship with the US, I think these countries should think twice before it’s too late about what he wants to Trump: giving cash in his pockets.
