Growing up, pizza night was always a big hit in our house. Since then, I’ve been feeding my own kids pizza, and they’re big pizza fans too. Instead of ordering expensive (and unhealthy!) takeout or frozen store pizza, I opt for homemade. I’ve tried many different versions over the years, the latest being this Chicken Crust Pizza, a low-carb pizza crust twist on my Meatza recipe.
Chicken Crust Pizza
My kids and I love pizza crust made with ground beef, but this delicious version uses ground chicken instead. We also use four times the amount of Parmesan cheese in the crust. This combination satisfies your traditional pizza craving with a delicious, crispy crust.
It’s low carb and naturally gluten free, making it a great option for those on a keto diet, and it’s packed with healthy fats and nutrients, so it’ll leave you feeling fuller than its refined-flour counterparts.
If you want a thicker, chewier crust, roll the chicken out flat to about 1/2-inch thickness. If you want a crisper crust, aim for about 1/4-inch thickness instead. Thankfully, pizza “dough” is very manageable and easy to work with.
Chicken pizza ingredients
The main ingredient here is chicken (obviously!), but you could substitute ground turkey if you prefer. You could also use canned chicken, or other healthier ingredients, if you have them on hand, and it’s quicker to make. Some chicken crust pizza recipes also call for shredded chicken to add a different texture.
Pizza isn’t pizza without your favorite toppings. We love tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese and plenty of fresh veggies. Or, for a creamier version, you could opt for Alfredo sauce. Here are some topping ideas:
- Sprinkle with Italian seasoning
- Drizzle with good quality olive oil
- pepperoni
- green pepper
- Red onion
- Top with fresh basil after cooking.
- black olives
- Roasted red peppers
- Chopped sun-dried tomatoes
Chicken Crust Pizza Recipe
This recipe is a twist on my classic Meatza and the popular Chicken Crust trend.
-
Preheat oven to 400°F.
-
In a large bowl, combine the chicken, eggs, grated Parmesan, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
-
Line a baking sheet, pizza pan, or pizza stone with parchment paper.
-
Transfer the chicken mixture onto the prepared parchment paper and spread evenly to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness to create pizza crust.
-
Bake chicken skin in preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and set.
-
Remove the crust from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
-
Finally, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough, leaving some space around the edges.
-
Add your favorite pizza toppings, such as mozzarella, veggies, or pepperoni.
-
Return the pizza to the oven and bake for a further 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
Once done, carefully remove the chicken crust pizza from the oven.
-
Allow to cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve. Enjoy!
