With only 11 matches in the 2024/25 season, the race for promotion from the championship to the Premier League is intensifying once again.
Leeds Leading the road at the top of the table, it is on a 17-game unbeaten run that dates back to the beginning of December, but Daniel Fark’s side is far from home and still dry.
With Sheffield United Burnley While heels are 3 and 5 points behind, Sunderland They hang right behind them and want to secure a top two finish that will certainly look like in the first few months of the season.
This is looking at the Championship Form Table…
Here’s a look at the average positions of the next five opponents in the top 4…
And we’re looking closely at the front runners for promotion to the Premier League…
1st – Leeds, 76 points
Naturally wounded by the final playoff loss to Southampton last season, Leeds has barely made a mistake in trying to secure a return to the Premier League this season. Fark’s side is the third-party away away record with the best home record in the championship, and is on the course to finish the season with 100 points.
With 72 goals, they were the highest scorers in English football’s top four divisions, losing three league games, each at a 1-0 scoreline, with their final loss going back to November 30th.
Second – Sheffield United, 73 points
The independent committee handed Sheffield United a two-point deduction last April after the club defaulted on paying other clubs during the 2022/23 promotion season, but that deficit was wiped out on the first day, and the blades were flying afterwards. After 15 wins from the first 22 matches, they were at the top at Christmas.
At this level, the margin went very well, losing to Burnley and Sunderland, and in a draw with West Brom, we saw them quickly give the lead and invite Leeds.
Third – Burnley, 71 points
There were no signs of a hangover after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League in the previous period. A 5-0 victory over Cardiff was shown after a 4-1 victory over Luton, and Scott Parker’s team has not fallen out of the top four since the beginning of September.
Their incredible defensive record was at the heart of their success. They hold 25 clean sheets and have slightly admitted 10 league goals. It ended its almost 19 hours of run without acknowledging it.
4th-Sunderland, 65 points
Sunderland led the championship top in the early months after nine wins from the first 12, but scored 16 points from the potential 36 to December and December, and has been sitting ever since.
The Black Cats’ momentum hit the losses to Leeds and Hull in February – the first time they’ve lost back-to-back games throughout the season – but the precious victory at Sheffield last Wednesday kept them in an automatic promotional hunt.
Playoff race
The seven teams under the top four are in the race that will finish in the playoff place in May, essentially at this point, automatic promotions are out of reach.
Frank Lampard’s Coventry He was fifth with 53 points and won eight of the last nine games, but West Brom, Bristol City and Blackburn They sit sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, with 52 points each.
Middles bra After a two-game winning streak and five losses, he’s still in his ninth photo with 50 points. Watford 10th place with 49 points Norwich 11th place with 48.
