De Maria Namkuam Satis: Mary is not enough. St. Bernard’s words are echoed by many other saints. For example, St. Anselm states that it is impossible to determine the limits of God’s grace in enhancing Mary’s humanity. St. Alphonsus said that if there is something good that can be said about Mary that does not contradict the teachings of the Church and is based on sound theological grounds, then it should be said. However, some Catholics, not to mention Protestants, oppose this kind of Mariology. Are these simply an outpouring of sentimental piety, or can they be sustained as a rational approach to theology?
Father Charles Anthony Mary, a Franciscan Friar of the Immaculate Conception, joins us on the podcast to argue why “Marian maximalism” is a sound theological position.
