In celebration of our 100th episode, the Catholic Culture Podcast’s popular guest, former Pennsylvania Poet Laureate Samuel Hazo, is back. At 92, Sam is still writing, with a new collection of poetry and novels recently published by Wiseblood Books.
In this episode, Sam reads and discusses poems from his new poetry collection. The next time I saw Paris, A recurring theme is how each experience passes over time, but even when it does, it becomes a single whole that remains intact in memory.
He talks about the founding of the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh. The forum hosted readings by many great modern poets, including WH Auden, Seamus Heaney and Czesław Milosz. Other topics include the importance of listening to poetry read, the development of Sam’s poetic voice to closely resemble natural speech, the hidden power of women, and more.
