It’s the start of a new year, and it’s the perfect time to plan some great getaways for the next 12 months. Whether you’re planning a quick weekend getaway, a week of relaxation, or longer, Antigua & Barbuda has everything you need.
Any tourist guide will tell you that Antigua has 365 different beaches, one for each day of the year. It attracts adventurous sun seekers and vitamin sea enthusiasts of all ages. And we haven’t even talked about Barbuda yet.
Antigua alone is home to the world-famous Half Moon Bay on its east coast. Secluded Rendezvous Bay in the southwest. Dickinson Bay is popular for its restaurants and nightlife. . .
But the island’s warm, glistening surrounding waters and beautiful, breezy coves are more than just perfect for sunbathing. It’s also a great place to try ziplining, windsurfing, or something more sedate with paddleboarding and snorkeling.
Take a catamaran cruise to the many islands off Antigua’s northeast coast (sunset cruises are a favorite). Explore coral reefs and other underwater formations at Cades or Sunken Rock. Grab a cocktail, strap on your sunglasses, and be sure to soak up a day or two in the sun.
Be sure to leave time to visit the historic sites around English Harbour, shop in St. John’s, and explore the rugged countryside inland.
A short flight or ferry ride north is Antigua’s sister island, Barbuda. A true undiscovered gem, this sparsely populated island is well worth a day trip (ideally more). Don’t miss the frigatebird bird sanctuary (home to one of the world’s largest nesting populations of frigatebirds) and the 17 miles of dramatic pink sand beaches that separate Barbuda’s lagoon from the Caribbean Sea.
