The Cleveland Browns placed new signing Bryan Allen (calf) on injured reserve on Monday, ending the center’s season.
Allen, 28, signed with the Browns in May and suffered a calf injury on the third day of training camp.
The Browns responded by announcing the signing of guard Zach Johnson.
Allen was a fourth-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. In 2021, he played in 16 regular season games and four more in the playoffs, helping Los Angeles win Super Bowl 56.
Allen then missed 22 of the Rams’ 34 games over the past two seasons, battling knee and thumb injuries in 2022 and losing the starting job to Coleman Shelton last season.
The Browns have centers Ethan Pocic and Luke Wypler. Pocic started 15 games for Cleveland last season and Wypler appeared in five games (one start) as a 2023 rookie.
