U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley won a shock victory at the BMW Championship and will enter next week’s Tour Championship in fourth place.
Bradley, who was named captain of the United States for the 2025 Ryder Cup last month, had only just made it onto the tournament’s 50-player field as a final qualifier.
The 38-year-old shot an even-par 72 in the final round at Castle Pines on Sunday to finish at 12 under par and one stroke ahead of second-placed Ludvig Oberg, Sam Burns and Adam Scott.
Bradley held on to the lead with a par on the 537-yard par-4 10th hole, breaking a tie with Scott, who made a three-putt bogey on the course’s most difficult hole.
Following his impressive performances this week, Oberg sits in fifth place at the Tour Championship, while Burns, who shot a seven-under 65 – his best round of the day – moves into the top 10 in ninth place and Scott is in 14th place.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished tied for 33rd at BMW but is the top seed next week and will start at 10 under par.
Xander Schauffele, who finished tied for fifth here, is second at eight under and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who withdrew this week with a back injury, is third at seven under.
Rory McIlroy shot a final round 71 to finish six under par and tie for 11th in the Tour Championship, meaning he will start the tournament in sixth place.
Only the top 30 FedEx Cup points finishers after the BMW Championship will qualify for the season-ending tournament at East Lake.
England’s Tommy Fleetwood was one of them, finishing tied for fifth at eight under par and rocketing from 31st to 22nd in the rankings.
Two-time major champion Justin Thomas qualified in 30th place despite a disappointing week that saw him finish well off the pace at two-over par, while 2023 British Open champion Brian Harman was narrowly eliminated in 31st place.
