Chace Calicut was trapped in his university commitment.
Rivals’ fourth-place safety during halftime of the 7-7 game at the OT7 Finals in South Florida Georgia.
Dawgs defensive back coach Donte Williams Extending the offer to Calicut in the spring, Georgia moved to pole position with Blue Chipper when he officially visited Athens earlier this month.
“I made the decision there in Georgia during my official visit,” Calicut told rivals. “My coach always said that when you’re home, it’s going to feel right… When I stepped into the Georgia campus, after feeling the program, I knew it was the right place.”
Williams, Travalis Robinson and Kirby Smart All showed vested interest in the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Calicut at Houston Powerhouse Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High School.
Calicut loved the opportunity to learn from some of the best defensive minds in the country.
“How can you get better?” he began. “I don’t think I can do that… in Georgia, playing for Kylie Smart, and with a defensive back… Kirby Smart, Donte, T-Rob – that’s the best thing you can get at a long cornerback.”
“If you want to be produced, if you want to go to the next level, you want to play in Georgia,” added Calicut.
Texas was in vogue with top 100 prospects in spring chunks after extending the offer to blue chippers in the state after their junior season.
Georgia was late to the party, but on two visits he made the most powerful impression at the right time with Calicut and his family.
“This is one of the best schools to play defensively,” he said. “They maximize your potential in Georgia. That’s all they want from you – to keep your head down and keep working…
