Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman said China needs to quickly acquire a trade contract with the US as it cannot win the trade war introduced that will seriously damage the economy.
In a post on X, Ackman said Beijing should be “very encouraged to enter into a trade deal as soon as possible.” If the deal doesn’t hit immediately, he said, “all companies with China-based supply chains will relocate to India, Vietnam, Mexico, the US or other countries.”
“Instead, if China decides to stubbornly not to negotiate due to pride or other emotional issues, China will suffer from so severe and lasting economic consequences,” Ackman said. “Time is a friend of the United States and China’s enemy in this negotiation.”
The hedge fund manager’s assessment faces people who say China can withstand the general rebellious tensions that marked President Donald Trump’s trade war and Beijing’s position. President Xi Jinping has refused any efforts to take him with Trump’s phone, and China has said the US must express respect and curb lightly opposed comments before talks between the two countries begin.
