Bookmakers are adjusting their odds for a 12-team playoff appearance after a surge in support for a familiar postseason powerhouse.
The University of Alabama is leading the Futures pool to select the 12-team College Football Playoff field, announced as part of the Bowl Selection Broadcast Sunday afternoon.
The top five league and seven at-large conference winners will qualify for the first 12-team playoffs, which begin on December 20th.
The Crimson Tide has captured over 85 percent of the market’s total bets on FanDuel and over 92 percent of the action on ESPNBet.
Alabama also has national championship odds of +1500 at FanDuel and BetMGM, ahead of Tennessee (+1800), SMU (+3200), Indiana (+4000) and Arizona State (+8000).
As of Tuesday morning, the favorites to win the national championship were Oregon (+350), Texas (+380), Ohio State (+400) and Georgia (+550).
Alabama, currently No. 13 in the rankings, could move up Tuesday night when the latest rankings are set by the committee, which must take into account losses to Miami and Clemson.
The loser of Saturday’s ACC Championship Game between SMU and Clemson will land in the so-called bubble along with South Carolina, Miami and Ole Miss.
SMU is currently listed as the favorite to win the championship over Clemson, with -240 odds to qualify for the 12-team field. Miami lost to Syracuse last week and moved up to +600 from the field on FanDuel. The hurricane is rapidly decreasing, reaching +750 on Tuesday morning, second only to South Carolina (+600).
These were better odds than Ole Miss (+4000), which currently sits alongside South Carolina, as the SEC team was eliminated from the playoffs.
