Auburn coach Hugh Freeze was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, the university said Friday.
Auburn said Freeze’s cancer is in its early stages and is “very treatable and treatable.”
Freeze, 55, will continue her coaching duties while she is undergoing treatment.
“Coach Freeze was recently diagnosed with early prostate cancer,” the school said in a statement. “Thankfully, it was detected early and his doctor advised it was very treatable and treatable.
“He is expected to continue his usual coaching duties and responsibilities and fully recover from proper treatment in the future. Coach Freeze is extremely grateful to our health professionals and urged him to use his experience to remind him of the importance of prioritizing and scheduling annual health screening.”
Freeze has a record of 11-14 after two seasons at Auburn. The Tigers were 5-7 last season and were not eligible for a bowl game.
Freeze was a four-season Liberty coach before taking Auburn Gig after the 2022 season. He also held division I coaching jobs in Arkansas (2011) and Ole Miss (2012-16) with a record of 94-57.
Auburn’s spring drill is scheduled to begin in late March.
