MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo relied on Zey Pacia and Ryan De Guzman to defeat Arellano 25-17, 25-18, 25-2 in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League College Preseason Championship in Rizal on Saturday. They won by a landslide in 18 and remained in the playoff race. Memorial Coliseum.
Pacia and De Guzman helped the Blue Eagles bounce back from a tough four-set loss to defending champion National University last week, handing the previously undefeated Lady Chiefs their first loss.

Ateneo tied Arellano and NU (2-0) 2-1 in Pool C. They need to win their remaining games next week against Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Pacia and De Guzman each scored 10 points and combined for 18 of the team’s 41 offensive points.

“Coach Sergio (Veloso) told us to be strong and just trust in ourselves,” Pacia said.
None of Arellano’s players scored in double figures, with Marianne Padillon, Faye Mangubat, Kasselyn Punzalan and Samantha Tiratila each scoring five points.
Meanwhile, San Beda defeated EAC 25-18, 25-23, 25-22, improving its record in Pool A to 1-2 and finally entering the win column.
Hoping to finally end a two-game imbalance, Leian Cañete led the Lady Red Spikers’ cohesiveness with eight points on seven attacks and an ace.

“Our motivation came from believing in the whole team. It was a big adjustment as we brought in new players such as. [Gina] Espina and Germaine [Joniega]So we had to adjust and give everyone a chance to play when the opportunity came,” said San Beda captain Cañete.
“Our mindset was to come together because we all want to win.”
Venice Pagayanan also contributed for San Beda with eight points, and Angel Habacon also scored seven points.
The Lady Red Spikers will play the Lady Bulldogs Sunday at 6 p.m.
EAC suffered back-to-back losses, including a straight-set loss to NU on Friday, leaving them winless in three games. Eliza Alimen and Alessandra Razonable led the Lady Generals with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
In the final game, Far Eastern University overcame Shaina Nitula’s 35-point outburst from Adamson and won 16-25, 25-22, 31-33, 25-20, 15-13, winning Pool D.
Gene Assis contributed to the Lady Tamaraws’ turnaround with 13 points. Cheney Tagaodo and Gertz Petalo each scored 12 points, and Clarice Loresco added 11 points, including three blocks, as their 3-0 record clinched one of the two playoff berths in their group. Ta.
Rookie sensation Nitula had 33 kills and two blocks, but her season-high marks were wasted as the Lady Falcons fell to 1-1.
