MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxer Vincent Astrolabio will challenge Nakatani Junto for the WBC bantamweight title on Saturday in Tokyo.
Astrolabio weighed in on Friday at 117.5 pounds, while Nakatani came in at 117.25 pounds.
Astrolabio faces an uphill task when challenging Nakatani for the belt, as the Japanese fighter remains unbeaten with an impressive record of 27-0 with 20 knockouts.
Meanwhile, the Filipino boxer is finally looking to bring home the belt after losing by majority decision in his first title bout to Jason Moloney last year.
“We are in good condition and have prepared well for this fight. We did not come here to lose. We have done all our training and we are going to bring the belt back to the Philippines,” Astrolabio’s trainer Nonoy Neri said at the pre-fight press conference.
Astrolabio earned his ticket to face Nakatani by defeating Nabapon Kaikanha by TKO last year.
Astrolabio and Nakatani will clash in the 12-round main event at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall on Saturday.
