Team Asobi’s Astro Bot today took home the Game Awards’ Game of the Year trophy for the 10th time. Studio Director Nicolas Doucet accepted the award from previous winner Swen Wincke of Larian Studio and thanked the rest of the studio for their work and passion. The game beat out several other popular games, including Players’ Voice winner Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Astro Bot won several other awards that night, including Game Direction, Family Game, and Action/Adventure Game. Several other GOTY nominees also won awards. Astro Bot wasn’t quite as complete a win as last year’s Baldur’s Gate 3. Balatro won both Best Indie and Best Debut Indie, as well as Best Mobile Game. Metaphor: ReFantazio won Best RPG and Art Direction, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won Best Score and Music.
