The Lord said to Noah, there will be floods and there will be floods. Then they drive those kids out of the muddy muddy stuff. Then build him arky, arky. I’ve heard it while toasting marshmallows around campfires, at least if you grew up in certain modern Protestant traditions. As adults, we may believe that there was a man called Noah who built the ark to save all innocent animal species in the world from the sinful flood. However, unless we dive deep into ancient history, we probably don’t know that this particularly famous biblical story was not the first of that particular subgenre. As explained Hochelaga The above videothere are even more old, world-famous stories.
In fact, one such mythology appears in the oldest known literary works in human history. Gilgamesh’s Epic. “In it, God learns about this sacred flood and secretly warns humans about this disaster,” says Tommy Trerowney, creator of Hockelaga. Knowing this, King Utnapishtim builds a huge coracle. This is a kind of circular boat “used to navigate the rivers of Mesopotamia for centuries.”
Like Noah, Utnapishtim takes his family and many animals on board and after overcoming the worst storm, he finds his craft to rest on the mountain peak. Also, like Noah, he sends out birds to find dry land. But in the end, “The story goes in a strange direction. Instead of being pleased, God is angry,” the EA takes responsibility and confirms that Utnapishtim is rewarded.
There are other versions of the Other Gods, Flood, and Ark Builder. in Religion for breakfast The video aboveAndrew Mark Henry, a scholar of religion, compares Noah’s biblical story with episodes of utnapishtim Gilgamesh’s Epic There is the Second Millennium BC and the Sumerian Flood Story of Atrahasis Epic, two centuries ago. All of these versions have quite a bit about common. In particular, the decision to enforce the higher being (or being) is to wipe out almost completely the human race they have created themselves. Ironically, our modern-day people may have first encountered this tale of intense anger and subsequent mass destruction. Whether the ancient Sumerians also sang about it in young groups or not, clay tablets have not yet been revealed.
