Johnny Nelson shares his views on possible postponement of Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois’ February rematch, citing ‘internal doubts’ after AJ was KO’d by his British rival last month Said there is a possibility…
I wouldn’t be surprised if this match gets postponed, I don’t think this will be AJ’s next match.
In my opinion, with AJ, it’s not a physical thing, it’s a mental thing. He got knocked out and went through a tough training camp, but we don’t know how that knockout affected him.
The doubts are from within him. He should want that more than anyone else. I think that’s the reason for the delay.
I know he’s healthy, but he has to get over the mental impact the first game had on him. He’s probably the only one thinking, and he needs to figure out what he did wrong against Dubois.
Even if he executed the game plan, it probably wasn’t the game plan because something was fundamentally wrong.
The only thing that can describe it is his mindset. How can he stick to the game plan and get the job done? That’s an AJ problem, not a coaching or management problem.
You are experienced enough. You know what you are capable of. You are a former two-time world heavyweight champion. That can’t happen. No excuses.
I’m a fan of AJ, but there may be an underlying problem that will continue to arise.
AJ knows he’s a good fighter and he knows he’s a great motivational speaker who motivates people to reach their full potential. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be heeding his own advice.
It’s like he’s doubting his own abilities. It’s about having confidence in your abilities. We’ve seen the best of him and at this stage in his career, he has to be consistent because every game is just as valuable as the last.
AJ is currently down to 7th place. ring magazine Looking at the world rankings, you may be wondering which version will come out on top. At this stage of his career, he shouldn’t be that much of a fighter.
Training camps usually last about 10 weeks, so it is enough to prepare in February. But for AJ, his confidence is coming back. He has to go there with confidence.
