Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited (ARACT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M), is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with electric vehicle manufacturer Ather Energy.
“We are proud to partner with Ather and are focused on building market-ready solutions on India’s journey towards indigenizing electric vehicle technology,” Vikramaditya Goolineni, executive director, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd., said in the release.
“Our focus has always been to design and manufacture our products from the ground up in India, with most of the non-cell components sourced locally. We are now making significant progress in driving indigenous cell technology,” Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO, Ather Energy, said.
“This will enable us to optimise costs and source lithium-ion batteries tailored to Ather’s specific requirements, further strengthening our ability to innovate and scale efficiently. Our aim is to help significantly grow the domestic industry to support India’s current and future energy needs,” he added.
As part of the agreement, Amala Raja will collaborate with Ather to develop and supply NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt), LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate), Li-ion and other advanced chemistry cells from a mega factory to be set up in Divithipally, Telangana.
Amara Raja recently signed an agreement with Goshon Innovat Batteries (GIB) to localize its global LFP technology to manufacture lithium-ion batteries suitable for Indian conditions. The company has also signed an agreement with Jiangsu Hyster Battery Manufacturing Co. Ltd for NMC technology.
