MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon won the Best Opposite Spiker award in the second round of the SEA V-League, helping Alas Philippines win their second consecutive bronze medal in the tournament.
Solomon was crowned top opposite spiker in the second match in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand on Sunday after leading Aras to another bronze medal with a come-from-behind victory over Indonesia, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10.
After struggling in the first two matches, scoring just six points in total, Solomon continued his strong form in the final match, scoring 25 points with 21 kills and four blocks on 35 attempts to pull off a comeback win against Indonesia.

The National University star was named last year’s Opposite Spiker of the Year in Game 2, leading a team spearheaded by the Lady Bulldogs’ core, earning her second individual award in the SEA V-League.
Solomon was the only Filipino to be part of the legendary team led by back-to-back MVP Chachuon Moksri, who led Thailand to its seventh consecutive title, defeating Vietnam 25-22, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15 to repeat as the champion.
The reigning UAAP Finals MVP averaged 13.7 points in Game 1 and 10.3 points in Game 2 as the varsity’s leading scorer.

Moksri was also named best outside spiker along with Vietnam’s Vi Thi Nhu Quynh. Thai playmaker Pornphan Gedpade won the best setter award. Best middle blocker was Thailand’s Tadao Nuekjan and Indonesia’s Widda Nurhadila, while best libero was Vietnam’s Nguyen Canh Dang.
In the first match, Zia de Guzman was named Best Setter and Thea Gagate was recognized as one of two Best Middle Blockers.
Alas Philippines finished the season with a 2-4 record, with both wins coming against Indonesia and losses to world-class teams Thailand and Vietnam.
